Vaccinations

Childhood Vaccinations

At our GP surgery, we believe that childhood immunisations are one of the most important and effective ways to protect your child's health and wellbeing.

Immunisations are designed to protect your child against a range of serious and potentially life-threatening diseases, such as measles, mumps, rubella, polio, and meningitis. By vaccinating your child, you not only protect them from these diseases but also contribute to the overall health and safety of the wider community.

Childhood immunisations are recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the UK Department of Health and are provided free of charge by the NHS. The immunisation schedule is carefully designed to provide protection when it is needed most, starting from birth, and continuing throughout childhood.

By following the immunisation schedule, you can ensure that your child receives the necessary vaccines at the right time, providing them with the best possible protection against disease. It's important to remember that some diseases, such as measles, can have serious long-term consequences, including deafness and brain damage.

As healthcare professionals, we understand that some parents may have concerns about childhood immunisations. However, we believe that the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risks, and we are here to provide you with all the information and support you need to make an informed decision about your child's health.

At our GP surgery, we are committed to providing comprehensive immunisation services to all our patients, and we work closely with parents to ensure that their child receives the best possible care. If you have any questions or concerns about childhood immunisations, please do not hesitate to contact us – we are here to help.

Flu Vaccinations

The flu vaccine is safe and effective vaccine. It is offered every year on the NHS to help protect people at risk of getting seriously ill from flu.

Flu vaccination is important because:

  • More people are likely to get flu this winter as fewer people will have built up natural immunity to it during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • If you get flu and COVID-19 at the same time, research shows you're more likely to be seriously ill
  • Getting vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 will provide protection for you and those around you for both these serious illnesses

If you've had COVID-19, it's safe to have the flu vaccine. It will still be effective at helping to prevent flu.

The flu vaccine is given free on the NHS to people who:

  • are 50 and over (including those who'll be 50 by 31 March 2022)
  • have certain health conditions
  • are pregnant
  • are in long-stay residential care
  • receive a carer's allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick
  • live with someone who is more likely to get infections (such as someone who has HIV, has had a transplant or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)
  • frontline health or social care workers
