Training Practice

Macmillan Surgery: an approved training practice

Macmillan Surgery is proud to be a teaching and training practice for healthcare professionals. Over the years we have supervised undergraduates (medical students), Foundation Doctors and we are now approved as a postgraduate training practice. We now supervise fully qualified doctors during their training to become General Practitioners - a process which takes 3 years.

We host GP trainees for 6 - 12 months throughout their different stages of training.

During their time at the surgery the trainee initially sits in with fellow professionals and observes consultations before they start seeing their own patients in surgery. They may need to record some consultations for training purposes and examinations- permission will always be sought and will only go ahead if the patient agrees.

Appointments with the trainee

You might be offered an appointment with one of our trainees and you should be notified of their training status upon booking that appointment. In our experience patients are very happy to be seen by them. Each trainee is closely supervised by a GP Trainer in practice. We thank you for being part of this important process and welcome any feedback you have.
